okay so im technologically lagging and i JUST only started using MSN messenger but in my defence i will say that i've been using a MAC, so hence my microsoft-related ignorance. now my MSN contact list is well, dismal to say the least, currently at full strength of 1 grand contact courtesy of tiffany, so add me then. lennard_ong@yahoo.com

when my team leader called and told me to wear civilians to duty cause we were going to do an ambush, i was really damn excited. when we got to strap the pistols to our ankles, i was pissing in my pants with anticipation for the night. then came the briefing. we were doing an ambush for a bicycle thief. take the excitement down a notch. and we spent the night camped at some HDB void deck keeping eye on a bicycle some dist away. and what a bore it was. we caught an old man peeing in the void deck. that's about it.
seems everyone's leaving now. yishi, such, stef, rox, and bla bla the list goes on. when NS is over and the boys go, it'll be around this time of the year too. what an allusion to migratory birds and the seasons of migration. time to fly the coop and spread our wings baby, though some of us make take longer than others.
which brings me to the fact that im studying locally so i thought i might as well get to know what this country actually is about. i wanted to buy this book on politics in singapore and shit like that, so when i rifled thru it, i chanced upon a section on the speakers corner- "a world renowned area for free speech". and i put the book down s-l-o-w-l-y, and took and step back, before turn 180 and running away, hopefully all the way to another nation, but unfortunately only as far as a few steps.

you know hows theres a daily body clock? well there's also a yearly body clock, i realized, and its sync-ed to the school year. that why its now august but i still feel like its only jan or feb. traditionally, june would feel like june because it was when we had that glorious one month break. and august would feel like august because you had to mug. but now, without school, it seems like the year has gotten all wonky. maybe thats why there's the phrase 'young at heart', because adults, having no more school, don't realize the years passing.

now NDP is over and attachment has started i am filled with a freedom fuelled joy which makes me want to stand atop a mountain, or in the context of heartland singapore, atop a HDP flat and bawl out a huge great YAWP. YAWP.
With ALOT more free time, its not as if I'm doing anything especially significant, but what i enjoy is the leisurely pace at which i can now do my things. i am brewing a new batch of beer and its fermenting in my room and its very comforting to wake in the middle of the night gripped in the fear of 'SHIT WHAT TIME DO I HAVE TO REPORT TOMORROW TO CAMP?!' only to remember that 'ahhhh... i'm in attachment.... no need to go to camp...' and hear my beer fermenter blubs reassuringly.
listening to Queen, KISS, Led Zep and the gamut of classic bands, i am gripped with despair. I am never to watch their concerts, to experience first hand their magic. Of the Rock Opera, and the Camp Glam and the Rock Maestro. Sure Robert Smith and the Cure are still at it but thats different. They're past their prime and robert smith doesn't cut it so much anymore, and its just not the same! And i want to conk myself on the head for missing the recent rolling stones concert. i feel like a spaceman from the 70s/80s because 2004 isn't very me. (it isn't very anyone at that too, might i add.) and i'm not joking when i say the thought of what their concerts might have been like brings a tear to my eye.
jireh was right when he said my blog is dying and i know that and quite frankly now i don't mind so much and its back to more of writing for myself. it'd suit me fine if no one reads this. this is, afterall, a wasteland.
god gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you, gave it to everyone
god gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you, put it in the soul of everyone.

haven't blogged in a while, but theres much to write now. granted its much ado about nothing, but isn't that the case usually? much ado about nothing.
isaac called me last night and asked where was nice to chill out and i said 'hey why not go to ice cold beer' and he say 'hey why not?' so i assumed he went there and when i reached to meet them there i saw them sitting outside ice cold beer on the curbside squatting and when i suggested ice cold beer well i didn't quite mean it that way and thats about the 2nd most hilarious occurance last night, 2nd of course to the events that proceeded it at Rouge (ex-milieu). but before i proceed, let me justify our actions to subvert unneccessary embarrasment on our part.
'the plan', as all plans teenagers concoct, failed to fall through due to some parties falling out (i.e. Weims & gang) or some other reasons which in this case, don't apply. so planless and out about town with too much time and too little to do, our original intention of going to zouk having been axed, we really were at a loss. if you're familiar with your orchard geography, then you'll know that ice cold beer is near Rouge! which is how we ended up there. it sounded good enough- $8 entry with one free drink. who's to complain? the catch- of course theres a catch!- is that it was a NUS engine fac bash!
inside they were all crowded on the dance floor doing NUS chant and cheers, which is horrifying enough, but afterwhich they obediently sat on the dance floor to watch those retrospective videos school-spirited people are so fond of with the obligatory songs from rock pop-dom (i fail to recall the exact songs). horror of horrors, but no, it doesn't end there. when the music does start and they start dancing, well, i shan't be scathing but let me quote isaac- "I've never seen so many bad dancers in one place. Lennard, they're even worse than you when you first started!", and for those who know of my embarrasing early dance floor fiascos, well, this time, it was even worse.
as of late, i've been feeling kinda under the weather what with a cough and blocked nose and itchy eyes and today i went to see the doc and its a bit disturbing that the medicine he gave he came with large stickers on the box saying- 'Caution! Poison!'. sure if i'm 6 feet under i doubt i'd have cough or running nose or itchy eye but then being 6 feet under opens up a whole new can of worms, doesn't it? so if you see my pretty mug in the obits any time soon, well, you know what happened.
unless of course, i die during NDP, which is tomorrow and im so excited that it'll be over that i may just lose control over my bladder, but it also puts me in fear of a terrorist attack! if they bomb the place, i hope its not when i'm doing my segment. soon it'll oh so over and i'll be oh so happy and then maybe i'll stop complaining so much about NS.
and this is for the army guys- i found a shop that sold bars of prickly heat soap! can you imagine? i bought a bar and i'll get back to you if it still gives the same tingly sensation. ah. prickyl heat power. air-con in a metal tin, its heaven i tell you!

after weeks and weeks of not seeing them, my friends are in worse state than i thought they were. some worse than me even. NS has this numbing pain on everyone, its inexplicable. its. its the forceful surrender of one's liberties, and now i see why papillion wanted so much to be a free man even though life on his colony wasn't half bad, simply because a man needs his liberty. i may not ever take a ballet class or become a nurse in my lifetime, but i damn well would like to option to do that if ever i damn well wanted. and don't tell me after 2 years, because 'after 2 years' still doesn't address those 2 years.
ah Jack White said it well- 'life is soo boring, its really got me snoring...'
its very sad when i see my friends get high and drunk all to forget for a moment that they're a national slave, and despite the hangover we know we will get and the long term damage and everything else, we know its worthit. just for that moment.
ride the wind baby. ride the wind and never turn back again.
p.s. most of my entries are all going to be along the same vein of NS and how it loathe it and bla bla bla so if you're reading for entertainment purposes, check back in feb 2006.
and such, heres the pic- http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/6403278/
no digital manipulation save for a bit of tweaking of colour. and thats your back.

2001: A Space Odyssey. Every critic worth his own salt would have seen and raved about this phenomenal movie. 'Beautiful to watch from start to finish!' says one, and everyone else alike. And perhaps they can get away with it precisely because the movie plods along so slow, that almost everyone and anyone who watches it would fall asleep, and hence cannot argue with the reviewers comments. but in all honesty, it is a beautiful movie. absolutety lovely, with very restrained pacing. its poetic la.
has anyone else seen it? remember the scene where all the astronauts are on the moon uncovering the monolith? it looks like they all have large gaping cheebyes.
in camp, warrick was complaining about loud and stupid malays. Rant rant rant rant rant. how oh he hates them and oh how they should just shut up (i agree, btw). and the hilarious part- he ends it with saying- "Fuck la! if they keep bothering me, next time i'll bring pork floss and toss it like confetti! see what they can do!" haha?
haha.
we are all assigned with a 2000-3000 word essay to write for some commissioner essay competition. some of what we write is absolutely hilarious. i for one, ended my essay with 'majula singapora'.
oh singapore oh singapore how i love thee.

I'm bad with words. I don't know why. It like a hand chokes the words before they can come out.
At zouk, it was so packed and as traffic funneled me through phuture i couldn't help but utter a 'moo' and laugh to myself.
disillustionment is when you know things seem bleak and that theres nothing you can do about it. or is that part depression? either way it ain't pretty.

beckham took the kick and off it sailed over the post. "WA! he should play rugby!" a friend commented.
today at rugby, some buff dude came up and i was lying on the grass without my shirt and he looked at me and said "cute face." and i said "oh ok." and he said "you like boy or girl?" and now i;m seriously reconsidering if i'm as open minded as i thought i was with regard to alternative lifestyles. whatever floats your boat, but don't rock mine baby.

'... and they lived happily ever after.' and mom would close the leather bound book, kiss your forehead and pull the sheets. then, she'd get up from your bedside and switch the lights off and as she leaves your room she'll poke her head through the closing door like an Acme cartoon ending and tell you good night.
and so we sleep with the memory of cinderella, pinocchio or whatever spectre of childhood wonderment still fresh and it takes life in our dreams and soon enough by the time we're 7 or 8 or 9, we can't seperate fact from fiction and we think that Ever After applies to life.
Ever after, the notion happiness from that point onwards toward infinity (and beyond). what a lark! I'm not a cynic, mind you. Ever After can and does exist, but it comes with a hell lot of clauses and fine print sneakier than a shady car dealer/handphone ad.
Childrens Fairy Tales and story books should come with disclaimers, or should be a hell lot more realistic. cinderella has to slave and raise 3 brats and her prince is fucking snow white on the side and the seven dwarfs, out of work, turn to the midget porn industry.

Many a times, i feel, people confused the concept of 'fondly remember' with 'miss'. For instance, i fondly remember BMT, but no, i do not miss it. see the difference? its simple really. so it really gets to me when, well ok this gets personal, when X says that he misses stand by bed, fuck you X. you may fondly remember it at best and that still makes you fucked up. and if you miss it so much, i'd be glad to ride up your ass about keeping your personal area neat.
Personally, i fondly remember JC, or parts of it at least, miss sec 4, and am torn between hating, fondly remembering and missing rugby. i do miss emily. where are you? off to canada and poof thats that. i fondly remember martin. and the list goes on.
To further back up my case that China PRC are really awfully screwed up, but this time in a nice way, theres this guy called Zeda in my bunk, really into investing and all that what with reading 'Rich Dad Poor Dad' and the likes. While reading 'Who stole my money?' one night, he turned to us with a confused expression on his face and asked-
"Who is Mother Nature? I know Mother Theresa but i dunno mother nature..." "ohhhhhh.... so is there a father nature?"
and after finishing his book i asked him- "so WHO did steal your money?"
and he thought about it.
"i still dunno⁄!" Taiwan sucks and free Tibet man.
ORD now 2 months earlier. yay!

How happy is the blameless vestal's lot!/ The world forgetting, by the world forgot./ Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!/ Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd
and with that quote i declare Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind my favourite movie until the next show i watch. 'you have been erased from someone's memory'. what a concept. both ways. having your memory erased, and having someone's memory of you erased, both sides of the same coin. after all, what are we but concepts and thoughts and a projection of our personality and so if there's nothing to project to then whats left of us? this brings to mind an memory from a few years back.
-history-
Roger is a guy from ACS barker primary who was a bit nuts. He idolized hitler and during recess would send me on missions to assasinate the principal or who naught and no this was no child-game for him and he took the whole business very seriously. sometime in primary 5 i think he just disappeared. just stopped coming to school. no one knew where he went and no one was old enough to care and we went on with our carefree primary school life eating canteen food and playing police and thief and all the assorted trappings.
-end history-
few years back, i was browsing around MPH bookstore when no and behold i saw him!
"Roger! hey! remember me? lennard!"
"Lennard? what is this? who is this? no!! no!!" and he clutched at his head and scrunced his face and waved his hand and had a dreamy look in his eye. he had a caretaker with him and she promptly shoo-ed me away and told me never to talk or bother him again and it was an altogether very disorienting experience but no i didn't feel sorry for him but i am sorry that he will never remember me, insignificant as it may be.
i fondly remember him.
Blessed are the forgetful, for they get the better even of their blunders. and when Mary (Kirsten Dunst) said that i thought of firstly him, and then myself.
and then the movie also brings to mind the concept of 'the one'. no i'm not talking about the jet li corn-ball sci-fi thrash flick, but about a notion old as time about soulmates, about two people made just for each other, fitting each other snugly like adjacent puzzle pieces. Homer and Marge come close. do i believe that we've a special someone out there? honestly, no i don't, but i think there definately are people who are better suited for each other. joan's post mentioned that monogomy is dead and how different people complete different aspects of our being and i say all those in favour, say aye.
aye.
and. and i am glad that jim carrey is started to flex his thespian muscles. first Man on The Moon, which was under-appreciated, then The Truman Show, which was excellent, and The Majestic, which was severely under-rated. now this, Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind. Oh joy, oh joyful elation, i'll jump in the air and click my heels for him. if you could buy hollywoodstar stocks, i say buybuybuybuy jim carrey. Bigger things to come and i for one eagerly anticipate with baited breath.

again i say why can't soap be moisturizing, anti-bacterial, mild and refreshing, all-in-one?! is it so hard to do? why must it be always an either/or choice.
i fear my bodyclock has given in to regimentation... now even on my book out days i'm sleepy by 10 and awake by 6. i want my unhealthy lifestyle back! and i've started playing magic... any magic players out there? i wanna play!
